Overview: The full-scale ASW 28 is a Standard Class airplane with a fifteen metre span built of modern fibre reinforced composites. The manufacturer of the ASW-28 is Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co. The "W" indicates this is a design of the influential and prolific German designer Gerhard Waibel. Serial production started in 2000.
As all Standard Class sailplanes, the ASW-28 does not have flaps or other lift-enhancing devices. It has tall winglets, a retractable undercarriage and a water ballast system. The structure is a complex composite of carbon, aramid and polyethylene fibre reinforced plastic. This permits a light structure with the strength to carry large amounts of water ballast, thus permitting the widest possible range of wing loadings for weak and strong soaring weather.
VolantexRC ASW 28 is a sport scale model that does incorporate flaps unlike its full scale counterpart. It comes plug and fly so you just need to complete some final assembly, install your battery, receiver and fly. The airframe is a mix of EPO foam for the wings and tail, with a blow molded plastic fuselage. This gives a slick finish that is also extremely durabluff45 Great for those less than perfect slope sites. A powerful 4018 850kv brushless outrunner motor rockets the ASW 28 to altitude, then when you throttle down, the propeller folds back for extended soaring. Accessing the battery is easy through the canopy with four small snap locks that keeps the canopy secure.
This Version 2 comes with lots of extra features. The wings come with two spars in each wing to give extra strength during those tight turns and power dives. Installing the wings is now easier with a plastic latch for securing the wings. Inside there is now a bigger plywood tray to make it easier to carry FPV camera"s, VTx"s or other electronics. Landings are now a lot easier with the inclusion of landing gear. No more scraping the fuselage.
The delivery time was great but my ASW28 Glider arrived in a crushed box. There is damage to the canopy, the wooden platform inside the battery and receiver bay is broken and there is a gouge in the left wing. I was really looking forward to flying this thing.

Pacco arrivato in 5 giorni feriali, imballaggio molto approssimativo e per niente protetto, consistente esclusivamente in una bustona nera tipo immondezza ma un po più spessa direttamente sopra la scatola originale, FORTUNATAMENTE non ha subito danni da trasporto. Aperta la scatola, l'impressione iniziale è di un prodotto di ottima fattura, confermata anche dalla qualità dei materiali e della minuteria, gli incastri irrobustiti da guide di plastica, sono pressoché perfetti. Unico piccolo difetto riscontrato sta nel sistema di aggancio delle semiali alla fusoliera, il quale faticava ad agganciarsi e a sganciarsi, per un imperfetto fissaggio dei ganci in plastica alla radice delle ali. Difetto risolto limando leggermente col dremel l'interno della sede del gancio per farlo muovere bene. Montato il modello, nel centraggio si riscontra, se si posiziona la batteria nella prevista posizione, che il muso picchia tantissimo, (sempre che il cg sia veramente dove indicato sotto le ali, cosa da verificare), comunque con piccola modifica ho installato la batteria sul piano più arretrato spostando al di sotto i cavi servo, centrando il modello. I servi, motore e regolatore funzionano bene. I flap sono pronti col servo ma ancora attaccati alle estremità, così se non si vuole usarli si lasciano bloccati. Non mi piaceva il sistema di bloccaggio cappottina con tappi a pressione, sostituiti con viti. Mi riservo di dire qualcosa di più dopo collaudo, ma credo che debba volare bene.

I didn't like the canopy locking system with pressure caps, replaced with screws. I reserve the right to say something more after testing, but I think it must fly well.

Bad idea becouse you burn your ESC in fist flight. But you can use better ESC which can withstands higher current and 4s better than the original volantex ESC. For normal and safe use of a 4s battery I would recommend ESC with at least 50A 2-6s. With a 4s battery, you will probably break the propeller in mid air sooner or later.

Yes indeed.You can also add a slighty bigger prop. like the 12x6,5 or 12x8. for a little more torque to help you to get out of trouble whenever that will happen.Or 10x6 prop on 4s but check the temp ESC sometimes.

I use a 1300mA 3S battery, the average consumption is about 20A, with this battery I flew up to an hour continuously, making several ascents.

I tried 4 S LiPo but had problems with cavitation. Much better to use a large 3 S Li Po to enable centre of gravity without weight in the tail. And extended flight times. The large standard motor easily handles a larger propeller. Much improved power with an 11X8 prop,even a 12X8,which I now use. A 12X8 inch prop using 3,000 mah LiPo gives excellent climb rate. In my opinion the 10X6 standard prop is not sufficient for flat field powered flight. Excellent slope soarer even in stiff winds. Adequate thermaller. Great Foamie for the price! Happy flying!

Yes, servos with crappy plastic gears are preinstalled, so throw them away immediately in the trash. Instead, install servos with metal gears, even cheap MG90s will be 100 times more reliable. I crashed my asw 28 on the first day because one plastic servo jammed, which resulted in a short circuit in the BEC, the ESC restarted in the air but turned off receiver. Was not enough altitude to recover the glider so it ended up diving down to the ground at moderate speed.

I don't understand the question. However, let me clarify the description; This is an electric glider and is not a dedicated slope glider. A slope glider has no motor and needs a much smaller battery only for the RC. In my experience flying this plane, the ailerons are too small. I changed the outer half of the flap to additional aileron. It now turns perfectly.

c'è molto spazio e può essere installata una batteria con grande capacità (lo spazio è davvero tanto), ma a quel punto dovrai appesantire la coda oppure togliere il pilota per avere un bilanciamento corretto

YES! An excellent FPV platform. You may have to custom build camera mount and modify canopy. Flight times vary on how much lift available. No lift conditions expect flight times of 10-15 minutes under full power,depending on battery. (normally I get 20 to 30 minutes flying with plenty of battery to spare. Plane under power about 0.25 to 0.33 of the time). Certainly longer than my attention span! With lift you could fly for hours at a time.
